A weekly devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
The Christmas season is synonymous with singing and the sound of joyful music, celebrating the advent of our Lord and Savior. From concert halls, waiting for the performance of Handel’s Messiah to begin, to church groups doing their best to stay on key, music captures the awe and excitement of what Christmas is all about. But we find that the best Christmas music comes directly from the Word of God. Throughout Handel’s Messiah attention is given to the words of the Old and New Testament to show that the promise of the Messiah was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. In the chorus of Handel’s Messiah, we have the words of Isaiah chapter nine “…and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Each title emphasizes a distinct aspect of the character of Jesus Christ’s demonstrating that He is fully God and fully Man, yet without sin.
This week set aside some time to read through the prophecies of Isaiah to hear the message he was given by God to announce to a people living in darkness. It will be music to your ears!
