What’s in a Name?

A weekly devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb

From the seventh century on, Christians have not always agreed on whether Lent, the forty days before Passion Week, should be observed and if so how. But the importance of taking deliberate steps to prepare ourselves for remembering Christ’s incarnation, death, and resurrection is something every Christian should agree on.

The book of Hebrews was written to encourage Jewish believers who were struggling in their new faith as they experienced persecution and trials. Hebrews 12:2 brings to our attention a unique title ascribed to the Savor. We are instructed to fix our eyes on Jesus “…the author and perfecter of our faith”. He alone is the author (captain) of our salvation and the perfecter (finisher) of our faith, having promised to complete the good work that He begun in us at our conversion.

Take some time this week to consider the difference it should make in our lives when we come to acknowledge that Jesus is the author and perfecter of our faith and not us!
