A weekly devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
Many people live from day to day in search of an adrenalin rush, something that will leave them breathless. There is just one problem with that. If our greatest joy comes from something physical and material it won’t last long. When it’s gone, we are left feeling disappointed, dissatisfied, and looking for the next big thrill. However, there is a thrill that each follower of Jesus Christ can experience every moment of the day. It is the awe of knowing God personally and having a dynamic relationship with Him, through Jesus Christ.
Familiarity is the enemy of awe and we must never become complacent when it comes to our walk with God. One of the best ways to counteract a loss of awe for God is to spend time in each day with God in prayer and His word. Psalm 46:10 tells us “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” In a world where there never seems to be enough time and people are rushing on to the next thing, we must seek to quiet our hearts and minds by reading the Bible, reflecting on the character of God, and talking with Him in prayer. When we learn to do that, we will discover that our greatest thrill comes from being still and living in awe of the Lord.
