A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
The word testing probably has negative connotations to most of us. We often only associate testing with written exams which reveal what we have or have not learned. But the Bible teaches that testing, which includes difficult situations and trials in our lives, is designed to expose our true heart attitude and to display the character of God.
In Psalm 66 we find these words, “For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried.” Although painful, the imagery of metallurgy provides an accurate picture of heating something up to burn out its impurities. Therefore, producing something superior and of higher quality than the original product.
Let’s not be surprised at the testing of our faith but instead yield to the refining work of the Holy Spirit.
