A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
The Christmas season is filled with music ranging from Handel’s “Messiah” to “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.” Whether you are driving in your car, shopping for that special gift, or working at your computer the music of Christmas surrounds us and lifts our spirits.
But, have you ever stopped to ask yourself, “Why is music such an important element of Christmas?” The answer lies in the nature of the announcement that was made over two thousand years ago. The wait was now over, prophecy had been fulfilled, and a Savior, Christ the Lord had come to rescue us from our sins. The gospel of Luke informs us that after the announcement was made to the shepherds, a multitude of angels were praising God and proclaiming, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased.” Now that is something to sing about!
This Christmas season, let’s join with the angels in proclaiming the good news of salvation — “For unto us a Savior is born!” It’s still the greatest Christmas song of all!
