A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
At present, Spirit Airlines is the fastest growing and most profitable carrier in the United States. But, it also happens to be the most complained about airline because of its extra fees and no frills approach to flying. Although Spirit Airlines is attempting to curb negative feedback, a knowledge of human nature tells us that they will never be completely successful at eliminating complaints. In a self absorbed world, people demand and expect perfection. Complaining has become a new past time and it always seeks the company of others.
As followers of Christ, however, we are to display the exact opposite attitude to the world. In 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Paul instructs us to “give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” As we walk according to the Holy Spirit, and trust in a great God who is sovereign in our lives and the world, our gratitude to God will be evident to all. So, the next time you are tempted to complain, remember that it is God’s will for you to be full of praise and thanks. If complaining can be contagious, imagine what effect a spirit of thankfulness will have on others!
