A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
Identity fraud and identity theft are a growing concern in today’s information age. Last month Anthem health insurance announced that patient records had been compromised. Yesterday Premera Blue Cross informed over 11 million subscribers that sensitive data and personal information had been stolen. Those affected have every reason to be upset because our personal identity is of great value.
I find it very comforting to know that our identity as Christians can never be tampered with or stolen. In Ephesians chapter 1:13-14, Paul writes that we were sealed with the Holy Spirit “who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of His glory.” At the moment of salvation we are permanently sealed or marked as a new creation because we have been purchased by Jesus. The presence of the Holy Spirit, in every believer, is the first installment guaranteeing that all which Christ has attained will be ours at His triumphant return.
The next time you use your credit card, debit card, or any other electronic device, remember that your spiritual identity is safe and secure in Jesus Christ!
