A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
Many have watched in disbelief as chaos and violence has gripped the city of Baltimore. Demonstrations and protests triggered by a possible act of injustice committed against one individual, have now resulted in countless acts of injustice. City officials, residents, and law enforcement in Baltimore are left wondering, “When will it all end?”
In 2 Corinthians 5:19, Paul writes of “…the message of reconciliation” through Christ’s work on the cross. The term reconciliation means to bring two warring parties back into perfect fellowship or harmony together. Jesus Christ endured the greatest injustice on the cross so that He might be declared just before a holy God. When we place our faith in Christ we are reconciled with God. It then becomes the responsibility of every believer to carry this message into a world torn apart by sin.
As we continue pray for the city and people of Baltimore, and our brothers and sisters in Christ who live there, let’s remember that reconciliation between people requires that we must first be made right with God. This is the good news of Jesus Christ that every believer has the privilege and responsibility to proclaim.
