A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
They are only mentioned once in the New Testament and yet they are given one of the highest honors by an apostle. We have no idea of what they looked like but, their efforts and results speak for themselves. In 2 Timothy 1:5, Paul commends Timothy (a pastor of the church in Ephesus) as having a “…sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you.” The word sincere refers to a faith that is genuine and without duplicity or hypocrisy. Timothy’s life was shaped by the godly influence of his mother and grandmother. One can only imagine the heavenly crown that awaited those two humble mothers for bringing Timothy up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
As you celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday look for a way to not only express your appreciation for your own mother but, also to those other special women that God has placed in your life. The unconditional love and nurture associated with motherhood is a small reflection of the love that God has demonstrated toward us in Christ Jesus. The testimony and witness of a godly woman is priceless, for it produces a sincere faith in those who have been blessed by. Happy Mother’s Day!
