A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
As a pastor and former carpenter, you can probably imagine why the headline “Worker Shortage Hammers Builders” caught my attention. Although the article was about the shortage of skilled workers for new construction, it also applies to the work of the Lord.
In Matthew 9:37, Jesus tells His disciples “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Contained in these words we have both the blueprint for God’s kingdom and the job description for every Christian. We are commanded to pray for spiritual laborers who will go out into a world that desperately needs to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. Secondly, every believer is to be a well equipped and willing worker, ready to go wherever the Lord of the harvest calls them.
Take a few minutes to ask yourself the following two questions:
“How deliberate am I, in my actions and conversations, to share Christ with my neighbors, colleagues, and friends?”
“How often do I pray for God raise up a new generation of workers to take the gospel to unknown people groups and other nations?”
There is much work to be done, so let’s get busy!
