A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
Most people have one, carry it with them, and can be heard talking on it. I am referring to your cell phone or smartphone. In 2014, over two million Americans had their smartphone stolen and many were resold to unexpected online buyers. Apple and Android phones now come with an antitheft device known as a kill switch. This device will disable your phone, turning it into an expensive paper weight. Although the goal is to reduce the number of thefts, no one is expecting this technology to eliminate the problem.
When it comes to having something that can never be stolen, nothing comes close to the assurance of salvation that we have as Christians. The gospel of John records a conversation Jesus had with worshippers in the temple at Jerusalem. On this occasion, Jesus confirmed His deity with the Father and the assurance of salvation that belongs to all who acknowledge Him as their Savior and Lord. Jesus declared, “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one can snatch them out of my hand.” Not only are we held by Christ but, the Son is held by the Father and is one with the Father. This double keeping means that we are always safe in the grip of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
This week keep a close eye on your phone and at the same time delight in the heavenly protection that you stand under. Remember, you are only safe when you are in His grip!
