A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
Sometimes it seems that just about every Republican and Democrat are testing the political waters for the upcoming presidential race. Finding the time to listen to each candidate and learn their views seems like an impossible task. In the midst of so many voices, who is speaking the truth and who is saying only what will get them elected? Discerning who is speaking the truth is a challenge that occurs not only in politics but within the community of God’s people.
In Deuteronomy 18:15 we read, “The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to Him.” These words indicated that in the future one ultimate prophet would come who would not only speak for God but, would also be the exact image or representation of God. The New Testament reveals that this promise was fulfilled in the coming of Jesus Christ. Therefore, in the teaching of both the Prophets and the Apostles, we have the complete and final Word of God on all matters related to faith and practice.
In a world where so many voices are clamoring for our allegiance it is reassuring to know that only one voice matters. The message of the Bible, unlike the latest opinion poll, can be trusted and obeyed with the greatest confidence. This week, take some time to sit down and listen to that one voice which speaks to us out of the written Word of God.
