A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
This question was the basis of an editorial in the Wall Street Journal on how people handle personal disappointment and loss. The answer to this question requires a clear definition of faith. For the follower of Jesus Christ, faith is not a leap in the dark, as some mistakenly think, but the confident assurance in the reality of God and the truthfulness of His promises.
The New Testament book of Hebrews was written to encourage those who were struggling in their faith and to reveal those who were merely going through the motions. In Hebrews 6:19we read “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Only when our faith is placed in what God has done for us, through Jesus Christ, will we be able to experience a stability and contentment in a turbulent world.
Whatever stage you are at in life, take a few minutes to consider how you would respond if asked, “How’s Your Faith?” Then ask yourself if would others believe your answer based on your words and actions?
