A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
Over 2,000 New Yorkers and 1,500 Texans were recently notified that their names had appeared on an ISIS “Kill List”. The only common denominator among the group is that they are all ordinary American citizens. The information on the “Kill List” included their name, address, phone number and email address. One individual, after being notified by the FBI that they had made the list, commented ” …it affects the way you respond day to day…you second guessing everything around you.”
Sometimes, knowing your name is written down can be a source of great comfort and joy. In days of antiquity, the writing down of your name conveyed a sense of ownership and permanence. In Revelation 21:27 we read that “…only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life” will enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, as followers of Jesus Christ we can rejoice in the fact that our names are written in the book of life and that we are being watched by our Heavenly Father until we go to be with Him. This is the list that matters most because it impacts our lives not just now, but for all eternity! Is your name on God’s list?
