A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
Graduation season is upon us and thousands of individuals will receive their diplomas as family and friends cheer them on. Afterwards, graduates will pack up their cars and head into the future with much anticipation. The huge investment in a college education will hopefully yield life long benefits and open many doors of opportunity. Yet, there is always an element of risk, and even the possibility of failure, when a new graduate steps out on their own.
In a world of uncertainty, it is refreshing to know that there is an investment that always bears unbelievable dividends. 1 Peter was written to believers that had been scattered as a result of persecution. They were feeling unwelcome and alienated in this world. In 1 Peter 1:4 we are reminded that every Christian has received “…an inheritance that is impermissible, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.” Whatever these Christians had lost, or was taken from them, was well worth the price for they would obtain something of even greater value.
The next graduation you attend, cheer on those who have earned their degrees and remember that as a follower of Jesus Christ you have an eternal inheritance waiting for you with your name on it!
