#lookatme?

A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb

That seems to be the preoccupation of many today according to a recent editorial in the Wallstreet Journal.  Dan Paley is convinced that the popularity of parents posting pictures of their children on Instagram has become a serious problem.  He argues that Instagram for many has become a tool for self aggrandizement that feeds into a narcissistic culture.  Mr. Paley goes on to write that Instagram has led to “…inflating our own self-worth, even as we deflate that of others.”

In John chapter 3, John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus Christ, proclaimed “He must increase, but I must decrease.”  John clearly understood, not only his own role in salvation history but, the proper attitude one must have toward the Son of God.  Modeled for us in his words is the attitude of humility and sacrificial obedience that all who acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Savior must have.

In a culture that is fascinated with itself, it is the calling of every believer to magnify Jesus Christ in all that we say and do. It’s time to say #lookatHim.
