What’s Next?

A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb

This is a question many are asking following Tuesday’s historic election.  It’s also a question that every follower of Christ should ask themselves.   The answer is simpler than you might think and it doesn’t have anything to do with politics.  In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Paul brings his letter to a close with a series of short imperatives for all believers.  He writes that we are to “Be joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”  Three attitudes that we are to exhibit, no matter what our circumstances, are joy, prayer, and expressing gratitude to the Lord.  Since these attitudes will manifest themselves in our behaviors, we are visual illustrations to the world that our confidence and hope is found in Christ alone.

So, no matter “what’s next,” let’s take every opportunity this week to do the will of God by being joyful, prayerful, and thankful.  For, more important than who is sitting in our nation’s capital, is who remains seated on the throne!  When we know that answer, we will always have a reason to be joyful, thankful, and prayerful in everything.
