A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
Thanks to the Internet, her sudden popularity has made her the highest paid woman on You-Tube earning her over seven million dollars last year. Her book, “How to Be a Bawse (Boss): A Guide to Conquering Life” will be released on March 28. She has been described as someone who is “…well known to people under twenty-five and a stranger to almost everyone else.” Who am I talking about? Lilly Singh, a You-Tube star and a viral sensation to thousands, especially millennials. But, is her advice worth listening to?
The book of Ecclesiastes, featuring King Solomon’s search for the meaning of life, is in every way a postmodern masterpiece. After spending his lifetime trying everything from materialism to sexual pleasure, Solomon determines that all is meaningless under the sun. However, as this reality sinks in, Solomon makes one final observation that changes everything. In Ecclesiastes 12:13, the wisest king in history concludes that life and our search for significance is fulfilled when we learn to “Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” In other words, the meaning of life is not found in another person or anything we can achieve or acquire. Instead, the secret to living a purposeful life is centered upon having a personal relationship with God and obeying His Word.
