A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
Many millennials and teenagers are actively seeking to keep their streak alive — their Snapstreak. With over 166 million Snapchat users large numbers of people are stopping what they are doing to send a photo or video to their friends. A snapstreak officially begins when you send a snap, get one back within twenty-four hours, then send another, and receive one back again all from the same person. Snapchat users have been known to go to extremes to keep a streak going. So, what is the big reward for maintaining a streak? A flaming emoji, a number highlighting the length of your streak, and lenses to decorate your face with unusual features.
The Bible calls us to pursue a different kind of streak — a Scripturestreak. Psalm 119 is devoted to proclaiming the importance of the Word of the LORD. In verse 33 we read, “Teach me, LORD, the way of your decrees, that I may follow it to the end.” The verb teach means to cast or throw before someone. The verse concludes with an exhortation to be faithful to the end which will reap a reward. The benefits of knowing the Scriptures brings us peace, strength, direction, wisdom and understanding.
