A devotional by Reverend Dr. Kevin Schwamb
You don’t have to be a football fan to know that just about everyone is talking about what happened in stadiums all across the U.S. this past Sunday. Players, coaches, and a few owners chose to stay off the field or take a knee during the national anthem. The reaction sparked a media frenzy with tweets from Lebron James to President Trump, expressing either their support or dismay of what transpired.
But, did you know that the Apostle Paul spoke about the issue of taking a knee long before it became trendy in the NFL? In Philippians 2:10-11 we read, “…that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow; in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Paul is reminding us that every single person will one day take a knee before Christ and acknowledge that He is the Lord and Savior of the world! If you are a Christian you have already made this confession and are learning to live this truth in your daily life. But, those who spend their entire life attempting to deny Jesus Christ will one day acknowledge that He is worthy of all praise and that their eternal punishment is perfectly just.
